The Northampton Philharmonic Choir presented an evening of summer music in a wide-ranging celebration of John Rutter following his 80th birthday in September last year. The concert was directed by Thomas Moore, and we were joined by Jonathan Kingston on piano and organ and Christina Alishaw on flute.

The programme included a performance of The Sprig of Thyme, which is a collection of eleven traditional folk songs from the British Isles arranged by Rutter, along with a selection of his anthems. Other works by Rutter that were featured were Toccato in Seven and Elegy, both for organ, and Suite Antique for flute and piano.
