It is our aim to make our concerts accessible to all, with particular emphasis on younger people, seniors, those who are on low or no income and people with disabilities. I am delighted to support Northampton Philharmonic Choir, which for more than a century has been turning people out to sing for the benefit of themselves and others. As a former chorister I know very well how singing in a choir can be one of the most rewarding of corporate enterprises.

Formed in 1896 as Northampton Musical Society (NMS) the choir performed substantial choral works in local venues with choirs of up to 200 members.

The Choir's Development and History

The choir steadily expanded its performing horizons, giving concerts with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1973, NMS changed its name to Northampton Philharmonic Choir, and performed Elgar's Dream of Gerontius in Tewkesbury Abbey, the first time that the choir had sung outside Northamptonshire. The choir then continued to give performances in Northampton, but also in many British cathedrals, and in London's Queen Elizabeth Hall.
